Geoff Dangerfield

Chief Executive, MINISTRY OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Geoff Dangerfield became the chief executive of the Ministry of Economic Development in May 2001. The Ministry advises the Government on economic development policy, business and competition policy. It incorporates the Ministry of Consumer Affairs and the Ministry of Tourism. Its operational activities include the Companies Office, the New Zealand Trustee and Insolvency Service, and the Intellectual Property Office, as well as management of the Crown minerals estate and of the radio spectrum

Prior to his appointment as Chief Executive, Geoff was Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, in charge of the Asset and Liability Management branch. He had been in that role since 1996. The branch managed the Government's foreign and domestic debt, the Government's commercial interests in Crown corporations and State-owned enterprises, and the development of the public sector financial management regime. Geoff was previously the Deputy Secretary in charge of the Treasury's Corporate Services.

Between 1993 and 1995 Geoff worked in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet as an advisor to the Prime Minister on fiscal and economic policy, the Budget, and on Treaty settlements.

In the late 1980s he was a manager in the Treasury's industries branch. Earlier he worked in the Ministry of Works and Development.

Geoff has a science degree and a Masters degree in resource management from the University of Canterbury.
