Harvey James is the CEO of Waimangu Volcanic Valley Ltd, a family business that has run tourism activities in Rotorua since 1965. Waimangu is operated under lease on a Department of Conservation-administered scenic reserve.

Harvey's primary goal for Waimangu Volcanic Valley is to obtain international recognition through World Heritage Listing.
