Ian Smith

DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR - UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO

Dr Ian Smith became Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & International) at the University of Otago in 1995. He has responsibility for the strategic leadership and management of the University's research activities, commercial activities, internationalisation programmes and PhD programmes.

Previously he was General Manager, Advanced Technical Development, CRA_Limited, in Perth and Melbourne, and lecturer and then Head of Department, Mining and Metallurgical Engineering, University of Queensland.

He has served on the Australian Industry Research and Development Board, the Western Australian Science and Technology Advisory Council, the Board of the Foundation for Research Science and Technology, and the Technology New Zealand Committee.
