Joanna Paul

Joanna Paul (Ngai Te Rangi) is well known as a media personality, media consultant, producer and business woman. She is currently an independent award winning film and television producer. She has been a board member for the Maori broadcasting funding agency, Te Mangai Paho and has recently undertaken a role as Interim Director on the board of the new Maori television channel.

She was Executive Development Producer for Maori drama series for the New Zealand Film Commission in 1987 and was a founder member of Te Manu Aute.

Joanna began her career 20 years ago with Radio New Zealand as a news programme producer and newsreader, moving to television as a researcher for the TVNZ documentary unit. She then worked in the independent industry in a variety of production roles, becoming co-producer of This is New Zealand, a weekly television series for US cable television.

An award winning journalist, Joanna has served as news anchor on both TV3 and One Network News and presented and researched natural history programmes.

Directing credits include television dramas Ihi Wahine and the documentary Eel; Maori Access. She was First Assistant Director and Second Unit Director on Merata Mita's feature Mauri.

Joanna is also an actress and has also taught drama and dance and lectured in media studies.
