Lane Finley

Executive Director, MAREX

Lane Finley comes to MAREX with a Bachelor of Science degree in business accounting and marketing from the University of Oregon.

For thirteen years he owned a marine dealership in Seattle, Washington, during which time he also built and exported yachts and launches from 37 to 50 feet.

He was chief financial officer for the Northwest Marine Trade Association, the largest marine association in the United States, with membership of more than 1800 marine companies.

An ocean lover, Lane for 15 years skippered large yachts from Alaska to Mexico under his ocean operator's captains license, and later sailed to New Zealand on his 44' yacht as part of a four-year cruise.

Lane is a quietly spoken, persuasive American who has guided the growth of New Zealand marine exports for the past five years. He understands the superyacht business and its people very well, having been in the marine industry for many years.

During Lane's tenure at the New Zealand Marine Export Group, membership has more than doubled and exports by the group have grown at 23% per annum. The members of this dynamic organization are now exporting NZ$270 million per annum. In 1999 MAREX was awarded the prestigious New Zealand Export Award under the "Co-operating to Compete" category.

Lane is now a New Zealand citizen.
