Neil Mackay
CEO, Industry New Zealand
Neil Mackay commenced as Chief Executive Officer of Industry New Zealand in April 2001. Neil has worked in a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, construction, sales and distribution, financial services, the Public Service and most recently car rental. He has gained extensive experience both in New Zealand and overseas, where he worked primarily in financial and management roles in Hong Kong, the United Kingdom and Australia.
Prior to joining Industry NZ Neil was Managing Director of Budget Rent a Car (NZ), where he grew and developed the business to be a leader in the competitive car rental industry. Under his directorship the company led the way in developing a range of products in the urban taxi replacement and traditional markets. The company also introduced a range of e-commerce solutions. Budget NZ improved its performance markedly, including a 50% productivity improvement, and strengthened its network within the regions of New Zealand. It is the best performed of the Budget International group of companies.
Prior to his tenure with Budget, Neil was General Manager Business Services and a Director of the Heritage and Identity Group within the Department of Internal Affairs.
He is regarded as a strategic leader who motivates teams to deliver outstanding results.
Neil is keen on most sports, plays golf and enjoys landscaping when time permits. He is married to Trish and has a 10 year old daughter, Hannah.
