Oliver Whalley

Year 12, NELSON COLLEGE

Oliver Whalley is a multi-talented young man currently studying at the sixth form level at Nelson College. As a member of the Bright Sparks programme he has entered the Hi-Tech competition twice in the last two years and was placed third in the senior division in 2001. This year Oliver will be representing New Zealand at a Future Problem Solving competition being held in the United States.

Oliver has a passion for electrical sciences; he enjoys being faced by a difficult challenge, working through it and seeing it work. He also see's it as a unique opportunity to work with new technology and to solve problems that no one else has done before. His latest venture, still in the design phase, is a robot that drives your lawn mower for you.

Outside of the classroom and the laboratory, Oliver is an avid road cyclist and mountain biker. He is also the South Island Under-16 road race cycling champion.
